The size of your heat press is one of the most important factors to consider when purchasing a new heat press machine. The proper size is dependent on your needs and what you intend to heat press with your machine. There are five size groups that heat presses are categorized in. The following will discuss the applications of and advantages of each:
Very Small: The 4”x6”, 6”x6”, and 6”x8” heat press machines are categorized in this size group. These machines are typically used for small heat transfers, like labels, logos and baby clothes. This may be a good size for you if you intend to focus your operations within these very small items and do not see yourself growing into larger items.
Small: The 9”x12”, 11”x15”, 12”x12” and 12”x14” heat presses are considered small heat presses. The main advantages of these sizes are portability and the lower cost of the relatively smaller unit. “Small” category heat presses are sufficient for standard 8 ½”x11” heat transfer prints from an inkjet printer, however may sometimes be restricting if you work with preprinted heat transfers that are sometimes printed on larger sheets.
Medium: The medium size heat presses, 15”x15”, 14”x16”, and the 16”x16”, are considered a good entry level commercial size and are versatile enough for most small businesses and hobbyist. This size will allow you to press most preprinted heat transfers as well as standard 8 ½”x11” prints printed from inkjet printers.
Large: Heat Press Nation carries both standard large size heat presses of 16”x20” and 16”x24”. These sizes offer the most scalability of your business and should be considered for large press jobs and long term versatility. Larger heat platens allow users to more easily frame their work and produce consistent positioning of the heat press image. It is important for users to weigh the advantages of these larger machines to their needs and long term usage goals.
Very Large: Very large heat press machines range in size from 18”x20”, 20”x25” to as large as 40”x64”. The need for this size of machine is considered unusual and is not necessary for most applications. Heat Press Nation does not carry heat presses of this size for this reason. Awesome heat presses! I bought three, the 15x15 and two 16x24s for my small business setup and thank goodness I did. I saved a ton of money over the overpriced brands and was able to turn a profit in less than a week! Thanks!
