The Impressions Expo in Long Beach, CA is always full of new and exciting technology in the garment decoration industry. This year our friends at Sawgrass Technologies debuted the next generation of their flagship line of sublimation printers: the brand-new SG500 and SG1000. We received an exclusive preview from Meghan at Sawgrass and got to see the new printers up close and in person.
At first look, the SG500 looks very similar to the SG400. Once you get a little closer, you can readily spot a few key differences. Most notable is going to be the new, larger, backlit screen. The information on the screen is now much easier to read. That combined with the new button layout makes toggling through your settings a breeze.
Under the hood, you’ll find the new SG500 is WiFi-equipped, which means you no longer have to be tethered to your printer by a USB cable (USB connection is still available). The roller bar has gone through a big change as well, going from a double to a single. This change reduces the number of paper jams and feed issues on the new printer. Sawgrass also upgraded some key parts from plastic to coated aluminum, which increases durability and reduces the number of things you have to clean.
Speaking of durability, Sawgrass is very confident in the quality of their new product. So much so, they’ve increased the standard warranty from 1 year to 2 years! Sawgrass has also added a Fine Print Feature, which provides increased resolution for those special projects that require the best possible, high definition quality. This is pretty incredible, considering the SG400 & SG800 already had high definition printing capabilities.
The Sawgrass SG1000 is everything you could want in a desktop sublimation printer. It resembles its predecessor, the SG800, while boasting new features to truly make this a modern sublimation printing solution. Like the SG500, the SG1000 also has a new, larger, backlit screen and upgraded button layout. It too comes WiFi-equipped, with a new single roller bar, 2-year warranty, and Fine Print Feature.
Not only is Sawgrass upgrading their line of printers, they’re also adding some incredible features to their web-based design software, CreativeStudio. 3D previews, increased font capabilities, and social media integration are just a few of the many features that are being added to the new CreativeStudio.
